So like in Ireland, I was expecting a lot of un-answered emails or just a plain NO. But instead I received super friendly responses from two of the top agencies. One being GAGA Models - One night around 22:30 I sent an email to the agency with a link to my portfolio and asking to do a test shoot with a couple models or a “New Face” model.

Within 15 minutes I received an email back from the owner of the magazine. Super friendly email and a couple links to some of her new models and said I should just let her know when is best for me and if I need help getting a team together for the shoot. The level of service I received from this agency was just amazing!

Considering the big clients they have and the amount of magazine covers their models get every month. One of their top models is Monika Jagaciak (JAC) - The face of almost everything right now! :-p

So after a couple emails I arranged to do a quick and small editorial. I picked one of the “Fresh Faces” – Anna. She was 15 at the time and was only with GAGA Models for about 5 months when we did the shoot. But one thing is for sure, They know how to shape and mould their models into world class models. So it was an absolute please to shoot with Anna. I did not have to give her much direction.

Right now, She is 16 years old and shooting campaigns in Taipei – Just over a year of joining GAGA Models.

So below are a couple of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Because of the not so good weather in Dublin, We had to do this shoot over two weekends. I uploaded a couple of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Once again I decided to shoot with Dublin based models Karolina and Ewa from Absolute the Agency. Make up and hair was done by Emilia and Carmel Daly was my stylist with styles from the designers range at Debenhams, River Island, Zara and loads of accessories from Wallis and Penny’s.

Technical bits – The whole shoot was done on a Nikon D700 / Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens with a variable ND filter and a Alienbees B800 strobe in a 35″ octobox.

This was my first go at fashion photography. I wanted to try and mix a classy look with a bit of funk – Nice big hair!Due to some cancellations, I had to do the shopping / styling for the models myself and I have to say it was real hard!

The shoot was scheduled to start 11:00 at a studio in Dublin. But like always, Thing never work out 100% as planned. Everyone ended up being a little late for the shoot (even the photographer )

So we were off to bit of a slow start. Emilia was our makeup artist for the day and started working on the makeup as soon as we all settled in, while myself, Aisling & John started setting up the studio for the shoot.

Because it was a rented studio, we placed a bunch of black plastic bags on the floor to make it easier to clean once we got all the shots we needed. For this shoot we had 3 models – Asah, Ewa & Karolina. The main plan was to just take loads of powder and throw it at the models head and get a photo just at the right time

One of the main elements to making a shot like this is the right kind of “powder explosion” – Its took a couple warm up shots, But Aisling did a killer job at getting me the shots that I wanted!

The shoot was finished by a frantic clean up session by the whole crew just before we had to leave the studio. Everything was covered in chocolate powder! I can still smell it on my gear.

I started the Invisible People project back in 2008 when I first moved to Ireland from South Africa. It started off with one trip to Dublin with a couple friends. I would normally take my camera with me to take some touristy type photos. But this day I started to get interested in street photography when I took a candid photo of a guy while he was sitting down and holding a cup for change.

The photo left a real good impression on me right after I took it and thats when I started to look around for more “shots” like these. After a couple street photography trips to Dublin and Galway I started to notice that a lot of these guys on the street just get ignored. In a way I was also keeping my distance a bit.

It was only when I went to Galway one day and was walking up and down this one area looking at one homeless guy that things changed. Being too scared to take a candid photo and doing a couple trips past him, He called me over and said “Take a photo of me! Make me famous!” – Thats when I started to take more interest in their stories and them.

After “Dublin Mick” called me over, I spent close to an hour listening to some of his stories while I took a couple random snaps of him and some of his friends that are also homeless in Galway. For a while I went over to Galway every weekend and just stopping for a chat and to give him some money.

After a while I started to build up a big collection of photos, candid type photos to show the whole “story” or moment plus some portraits. Thats when I decided to keep going with the project and came up with the tittle of “Invisible People”

So 3.5 years later I have a massive collection of photos from the project and have put together a 80 page book with my favorite photos. So I will be having a book launch & exhibition over the space of two days in Dublin. The book itself is A4 B&W printed on a real nice velvety paper and for the exhibition I have started to print a collection of 15, maybe 20 of my favorite photos from the book. All of them will be printed real big (100cm x 70cm) to add a bit more impact.

Invisible People is a self-funded charity project. So I have taken on all the costs for the book printing / exhibition. All the profits made from the sale of the book and prints will be donated to Cope Galway. The book and prints will be up for grabs during the two days and will also be available online.

Now I keep saying that im a Hip Hop and R&B kinda guy.. But since I moved to Ireland I have found myself listening to a whole lot of different types of music. Carmel is in a “Blue Grass” band.. What do I know about Blue Grass music? Well, nothing really. All I know is I really enjoyed the gig a couple years back!

Mark is a local aspiring model / actor that i met some time back and have worked with before on big fashion / clothing shoot for IAMWHY. He contacted me on Thursday asking if i can help out with an old B&W photo that he needs in colour. It was done by some other photographer. So i suggested he comes in for a quick portrait or two.

I did not think it would have been THAT fast. He had to be at work in 30 minutes and he just walked into my place. I managed to get all my gear / lights sorted before he got here. So he walked in, dropped his bag and he was under the lights after a minute or two.

I managed to take about 20 shots with 2 light setups in about 10 minutes.

For the Strobist out there. I was shooting an Nikon SB-600 in a small softbox, camera high left and for the second light setup i just used a ring flash (Thanks John!)

The editing took a little longer because i started using a wacom tablet just last night. So im a bit slow right now

Personally, i think the results are kinda nice for a 10min shoot. Let me know what you all think.

I only edited 3 of the photos. But tried colour and B&W – So excuse the duplicates..
